Electricity Cost £6.6/h
Labour Cost £15/h
Maintenance Cost £0.52/h
Air Compressor Cost  £1.5/h
Consumables Costs £2/h

Overall Hourly Costs

£25.62 roughly is the cost per hour and £204.00 per 8-hour shift.

  • Electricity Costs

Running M1 and M2 models when it comes to electricity will be very similar. We will assume a more powerful vacuum pump KVE360 11kW as this will be the case with 1530 and 2030 models. The 1325 model running on a 7.5kW vacuum pump will be a bit lower in power usage. Typical per hour kW usage – 22kW. Assuming approx. £0.30 per kW it will cost £6.6 per hour just to run the machine. Of course between boards, You will switch off almost all motors but let's aim for the worst-case scenario.

  • Labour Costs

Operator costs of course vary but our machines are built with simplicity in mind so even a 16-year-old apprentice can run programs after 30-60 minutes of training again let's allow for someone with more experience let’s say £30k per year, so around £15.00 per hour.

  • Maintenance Costs

Now maintenance again can vary dependably if you will just go for one obligatory to keep the next year's warranty or go for a maintenance program. Let’s assume Just one maintenance visit per year which is approx. £1000.00 dependable on mileage. Allowing for 1920 hours in a year in 8-hour shifts as you can see this cost will be minimal at just £0.52p per hour.

  • Air Compressor Costs

Being thorough we cannot forget on cost of the air compressor needed to run aside of CNC machine which will also cost us electricity. Probably you will have larger kW to run other Machines in the workshop but we can allow approx 5kW which is simply calculated as needed to create approx 16-20CFM which CNC needs to run which will cost us approximately £1.5 in electricity.

  • Consumables Costs

Consumables may quote a spread cost depending on the type of boards you will be cutting, whether you are investing in costly cutting tools or just using cheaper Carbide and replacing them without sharpening. Let's assume you cutting typical mfc/mdf 18mm boards. Using cheap carbine cutter, they cost in the range of £7-10 per bit and they allow for quite good cuts on 30-40 boards. Then you need to replace them. In a typical working day, you can cut 30 boards if the operator is just taking care of CNC not drawing and designing toolpaths. So if we assume other items like collets, chucks, and cutters break sometimes - during the year we can conclude that approx £2.00 per hour allowance for cutting consumables should be sufficient. If you will be using expensive cutters for £200-300 then of course above will be much higher and keep in mind that 10-20x more expensive cutters will not cut 10-20x more boards. But those high-end cutters may be needed for some types of boards or keeping edge quality for longer.

  • Overall Hourly Cost

Of course, we cannot here account for all overheads like workshops, light, heat, office, drafts person, loading/unloading boards, storage, forklift fuel, and many more which we should also, keep in mind if we want to be 100% accurate but that will vary between companies greatly so let’s put that aside. Summarising £25.62 roughly is the cost per hour and £204.00 per 8-hour shift – of course assuming the machine is running which is not the case per whole hour.

  • Revenue Generation

If you investing in a CNC router machines to provide cutting services in the industry you are charged roughly £40.00 - £200.00 per board depending on the complexity of the cutting/routing/grooving. The lower Bracket of £40.00 is of course for simple cutouts of elements for carcasses/boxes/table tops etc. This operation shouldn’t take more than 7-10 minutes.

NARROW WORKSHOP ENTRANCE?  NOT A PROBLEM FOR FABERTEC

We strive to accommodate our clients, though sometimes the situation may not be ideal.

For the Fabertec M1 and M2 2030 CNC center routers:

  • After removing the gantry, the minimum dimensions required for the table are 232 cm in width and 225 cm in height.
  • With the gantry assembled, the minimum required dimensions are 280 cm in width and 225 cm in height, without the servo motors and covers on those two models.

An additional charge will apply, as the machines from Fabertec HQ arrive fully tested and assembled. Therefore, reassembly is required on-site, often necessitating the deployment of additional engineers.

Here’s a recent experience we had with one of our clients.

We recently had a client in Bradford who showed an interest in our M2 2030 CNC router machine. However, the main challenge we had was the narrow passage to their workshop, which made it hard to get the machine inside. So, the Fabertec team designed and welded 2 metal vertical frames; one for the bed and another one for the gantry to be able to move parts safely through a narrow entrance to the Client's workshop. Led by Charles, the team of Fabertec engineers safely moved the disassembled CNC into its final resting place. The rest of the day was well spent on assembly and the following day M2 2030 was fully assembled and ready for training. After a few hours, the team at Carlise was cutting their designs fully confident in drawing and creating G-Code files. With Fabertec we design machines with the Client in mind - there is no need for PHD or Engineering degree to use our cnc's.

Here at FABERTEC, we are not shy from the challenge and we are making sure you have the means to cut quickly, safely, and accurately.

Some of the important features of the M2 CNC Centre Router

The vacuum bed is one of the most important feature of the cnc routers. By applying vacuum underneath the final material your board is held in place hence you don't have to use any clamps, screws or other means to keep it in place. Just press a button and you can process your material in no time knowing it will not move even a millimetre. The vacuum pumps supplied by us are always air cooled. The cheapest ones are water cooled and operator has to remember to keep the tank full, use antifreezers in winter, make sure no liquid is left in system during winter if antifreeze not used.
Servo motors are best motors available on the market for the CNC (and other) machines. A great number of CNC machines are supplied only with stepper or hybrid servo motors. The main difference between SERVOs and other motors is that they have a feedback loop to driver and position decoder. It means that driver always knows the “position” of the servo motor, if it missed any routing step, if there is too much tension on the motor etc. That allows driver to counteract or inform of any challenges during the processing. Also servo motors are much more durable and quicker than stepper or hybrid stepper motors so your work will be done in no time compared to cheaper solutions.
ALWAYS AIR COOLED (Except if very high kW used by Italian HSD) Industrial 9kW spindles which are air cooled are the most efficient solution in cnc routers. They allow for reliable work being controlled by designated inventer which will always apply required revolutions per minute down to operator specification or cutting bits used.
The lubrication oil for all guides/runners is located in automatic pump tank. After a set amount of minutes it will lubricate all guides and runners. By working with machines with manual lubrication we know it was a huge waste of time of the operator hence this option was added as standard.
We know that sometimes getting into cnc routing may be daunting and bit over the head. That's why we decided to use Syntec controllers to ease the pain of learning on your new machine. As this controller is really easy to learn, all data is clearly displayed on large screen and operations are very intuitive we never had a Clients who wouldn't cut their own products in 2-3h of training. When you add MPG Manual Pulse Generator handheld wheel where you can have full control of any motion movements on cnc as long as you turn the wheel - the work on FABERTEC M2 is simply a walk in the park without any stress.
By installing extra physical emergency sensors at the end of the axis we wanted to be sure that no operator can cause a serious damage even if great mistake will be made. We set software machine travel limits in controllers to stop machine if the coordinates are wrongly programmes but with high speeds the heavy gantry can still move by a few milometers during rapid movements. That's why we also installing physical limiters to switch off any servo movement in case spindle/gantry will pass their working limit. This will ensure no physical damage to steelwork on the machine.
Hiwin trapezoidal runners are the guides on which gantry and spindle is moving. The "beefier" they are the more stability, repeatability and durability of the machine your machine will have. As we prefer to overdesign our products the 30HG runners are designed for 6000kg kinetic load. Our gantry on M2 weights from 550kg to 700kg. As you can see you don't have to worry about any non designed "movement" on our structure by having almost 10x leeway in allowance for the weight.
If you planning on routing very high elements like laminated posts/timber, oak tables, assembled sections etc you can be sure our 300mm gap between gantry and table will leave you a plenty of space for long bits when doing for example deep tenons.
We believe in using just a little bit more steel and stiffeners than our competitors. That's why 10 or 12mm thick steel elements, 14mm thick steel sections to hold gantry or a full web of SHS beams are welded underneath the table to prevent any sagging in the future and losing flatness on your bed. We had a situations where Clients by mistake left a blank door on table during operations and FABERTEC M2 by pushing it against the wall made a hole in workshop blockwork. 20min to set the squareness and cnc was cutting fine. Also other case forklift hit our gantry at other Client site. One quick engineer visit and machine was working fine again without any structural damage. Those situations assured us that those extra steel used was a great decision as we really don't have to worry about durability of our machines.
As standard we install positioning bars on 2 edges of the table. They will make sure you will always lay down your board straight down the line. Also what's very important they will act as a perfect datum line when you will be processing double sided boards for example shaker style doors and your left side base needs to be fixed to flip the board and continue processing on other side.
